Virtual training became more common when Covid had us all in lockdown, but has remained a staple for a lot of trainers because we have seen over the past few years just how well it works! For particular groups of dogs, including highly sensitive dogs, I've seen virtual training yield even better results than in-person in-home training. This is because both you and your dog have fewer things to worry about in the environment and can just focus on the lesson. I do virtual sessions because they are less stressful for the dog, more convenient for the human, and work better overall.
In a word - wonderfully! All you need is an internet-connected device with Zoom and we are on our way to helping you live a more harmonious life with your four legged family member. When you choose your time slot on my calendar you will get a confirmation email, followed by a reminder email the day of. Just click the link for the Zoom call in the email when it is time for our session, and we will talk and train like any other session, we just won't be in the same room! Your dog will be able to relax and focus, and you will be able to ask questions without also managing your dog around distractions and a stranger. I also will record the session, so if you want to re-watch parts of what we went over, or the entire thing, you can do so whenever you want!
No, I do not normally come to the house for sessions except in rare occasions when it is best for the dog. Often, highly sensitive dogs struggle to have strangers in their home, and can feel unsafe or become overstimulated. In most cases it is going to be easier for a dog to concentrate and learn with minimal distractions, including trainers in their environment with really good treats! By coaching you virtually via Zoom and then moving to "field trips" out and about if appropriate for your individual dog, we can keep your dog as comfortable as possible while they learn, and you can learn how to work with your dog and build your relationship with him/her, as you are the one who lives with him/her and your relationship is very important.
Absolutely! Some dogs struggle in the car or in group settings with a lot of other dogs and strangers around, so my sessions are set up with these highly sensitive dogs in mind. Some people may also be too busy to attend a group class, but can manage a coaching session from home on their internet-connected device. Either way, your dog gets to be in the most relaxing and familiar environment possible, and the environment in which practicing the skills you will be learning is most important - his own home! Your dog gets to reach his peak potential and you can stay in pajama pants - win win!
